Setup Procedure
An internal backup source powers the absolute position counter, keeping the counter circuitry active for 30 days in the absence of DC power.
When unboxing the product, consider the internal storage to be in a discharged state. To charge.
- Connect DC power in accordance with the product manual.
- Allow the unit to charge for 24-hours. During this time programming and commissioning the unit may be performed.
- The internal storage level may be queried via the communications or network interface.
- Consider the application. Will the machine in which the LMD product is going into be unpowered, with the requirement for position updates and retention, for more than 30 days?
If so the Encoder Backup Battery Pack ICP0531 is recommended. This accessory will extend the data retention and update time to five (5) years on up to six (6) Liberty MDrive absolute encoder products.
Note: If error 121, 122, or 123 occur during commissioning process, refer to FAQ or Liberty MCode programming and reference manual for additional information.
Feature differences
The following table show the variation between Open Loop, Closed Loop and Absolute Encoder models:
NEMA 17 products
Function | Open Loop | Closed Loop | Absolute Encoder |
---|---|---|---|
hMTechnology1 | — | Yes | Yes |
Position update/retention [unpowered] | — | — | 30 days2 |
Analog input | Yes | Yes | — |
+24 V signal inputs | 3 | 3 | 3 |
100 mA Power outputs | — | — | — |
5.5 mA Signal outputs | 1 | 1 | 1 |
1hMTechnology is a closed-loop methodology that eliminates motor stalling and compensates for dynamic loads.
2 Up to five years with external battery pack ICP0531.
